The Executive Director Dr Udo Helmbrecht of ENISA participated in top level panel discussions at the First Worldwide Cybersecurity Summit, on ‘Protecting the Digital Economy’.
The event took place in Dallas, Texas, on May 3-5, 2010 and was organised by the East West Institute. Dr Helmbrecht was joined by other top ranking speakers, e.g. Howard Schmidt, White House Cybersecurity Coordinator for the Obama administration and former ENISA PSG member, Michael Dell, CEO at Dell, the IEEE President Mr Byeong Gi Lee, among many others top ranking public figures.
The discussions at EWI’s Worldwide Cybersecurity Summit is a starting point, by bringing together leaders of governments, businesses and civil society from around the world, to determine new measures to ensure the security of the world’s digital infrastructure.
Some comments from the event have been reported in multiple media, (see e.g. here and here), notably Dr Helmbrecht statement that ‘it's a big challenge just to get the EC member states "on the same page”, to overcome, different social, cultural and legal landscapes of different countries, as they have different concerns.
The international community has not come to an agreement on how best to deal with them. EWI’s Worldwide Cybersecurity Summit fills this gap, by engaging leaders from both the public and private sectors to reframe cybersecurity concerns and to devise collective strategies to address these concerns.
