ENISA’s New Advisory Group on the Starting Blocks

Back to News

ENISA selected the members whose expertise shall support the Agency’s strategic objectives set by its management board.

Out of 300 eligible applications received, ENISA selected 26 “ad personam” experts to form the new Advisory Group. These experts were formally appointed by the ENISA Management Board.  Based on personal expertise and merits, members are selected “ad personam”. As such, they do not represent their country of origin nor do they represent the organisation they work for. As a consequence, they cannot delegate their responsibilities to any other member of the group or to any other third party.

ENISA Executive Director, Juhan Lepassaar declared: "We warmly welcome the members of the new Advisory Group. We are eager to work with them and make use of their expertise to tackle the challenges ahead of us. The Agency is grateful for the valuable support received by the departing members and we would like to thank them all for their contribution.”

The new Advisory Group is set up for a term of two and a half years with an indicative starting date of 1 August 2025. The term of the previous Advisory Group will be ending on 31 July 2025.

Who are the new members?

The call for members was intended for nationals of the Member States of the European Union and nationals from the European Free Trade Association (EFTA countries). Experts were selected for the skills and work experience of particular relevance for ENISA to deliver on the priorities set in its multi-annual work programme. In particular, this includes the implementation of the NIS2 Directive and of the Cyber Resilience Act.

ENISA also nominated representatives of the following entities the Agency is closely engaged with in implementing its mandate:

i.    Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC);
ii.    European Committee for Standardization, European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CEN-CENELEC);
iii.    European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI);
iv.    European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (EUROPOL, EC3)
v.    European Data Protection Board (EDPB);
vi.    Computer Emergency Response Team for the EU institutions, bodies and agencies (CERT-EU);
vii.    European Cybersecurity Competence Centre (ECCC).

What is the role of the Advisory Group?

The non-renumerated role of the Advisory Group is to advise ENISA in relation to the performance of the Agency’s tasks except the cybersecurity certification framework. The group shall specifically ensure communication with the relevant stakeholders on issues related to ENISA's annual work programme. The group is also expected to advise the Executive Director on the drawing up of a proposal for the annual work programme of the Agency. The Advisory Group may also publish opinion papers in relation to these tasks as part of their advice.
